Memories of Merit

Memories are the mental capacity or faculty of obtaining and reviving facts, events, impressions, etc.[1]

We like to remember certain things: birthdays, anniversaries, special achievements, epic moments.

Every year in the month of August, I remember my wedding anniversary. We will be celebrating 49 years of marriage this year. Now, with that being said, I can recall both good and bad memories. By the grace of God, I choose to focus on all the good things God has done in our lives and marriage.

Something else we want to remember is the word of God. We want and need to reflect and hold it dear to our hearts. Why? God’s word is the lifeline in our spiritual walk.

Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, that I may not sin against You. Psalm 119:11 AMP

My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you [so they are readily available to guide you]. Keep my commandments and live, and keep my teaching and law as the apple of your eye. Bind them [securely] on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.  Proverbs 7:1-3 AMP

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 NKJV

There are so many benefits to remembering the word of God and storing it deep in our hearts. It will:

  • Guide us in times of trouble, indecision and chaos.

  • Bring the conviction we need to challenge us to do what is right.

  • Give direction for our lives concerning God’s will.

  • Build character that brings maturity in our lives.

  • Console us and give comfort, peace and joy in times of distress.

Let us remember the testimony of our transformed lives. Hold those memories close to your heart. Remember where He brought you from and all He has brought you through!

We serve a good and faithful God — a God who loves us! Now this is something worth remembering!
