May Flowers

Many of us have heard the saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” This originates from the old proverb, "March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers,” meaning ”a period of discomfort can provide for a period of happiness.”

This reminds me of what we have been experiencing the past few months.

  • March — Winds of Adversity
The Covid-19 virus has affected all our lives. People have lost their jobs, homes, businesses, family members, and friends. Doctors and nurses are getting infected with the virus and stores are running out of items while essential workers are continually being overloaded. This has drastically changed the way we live. We must shelter in our homes, homeschool, work from home, along with social distancing and wearing masks and gloves while out in public. Even the way we have church service has now changed to live streaming, drive-in services and Zoom meetings along with whatever creative ideas we can think of. As you are aware, all this has been a big adjustment!

  • April — Showers of Blessing
Today we also see an outpouring of kindness and camaraderie, people doing whatever they can to help each other out: giving food; donating essential items; running errands; and calling and texting one another to show love and support. People have even made posters of appreciation, welcome home and thank you signs as a display of kindness.

We are also experiencing a time of evangelism and revival because people filled with fear and uncertainty are now reaching out to Jesus! There are miracle healings taking place and God is answering prayer! The harvest is ripe and ready and we are seeing the fruit!

  • May — Flowers of Beauty
We all enjoy the color, fragrance and beauty that flowers bring. We use them to brighten up a room, decorate our yards or even give them as a gift.

The dictionary says flowers are:

  1. Planted to blossom or cultivated for its floral beauty.

  2. A state of efflorescence or bloom.

Each of these refer to a process that must take place in order to come to full maturity and blossom to reveal its beauty.

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 NKJV

Be encouraged, there is more taking place than what our natural eyes can see and our God is still at work through it all. We will see the beauty come forth, as we pass through the storms of adversity and experience the showers of blessings!

“I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NKJV
