New Beginnings

Isn’t it something how when we hear the word ”new” we get excited? Thoughts of a new house, new car, new clothes, new shoes, and maybe even a new hairdo can excite us. But then, there are those new things that can be a bit more challenging; like a new job, new position, new neighborhood, new school, and even new friends.

“For if a man is in Christ he becomes a new person altogether–the past is finished and gone, everything has become fresh and new." 2 Corinthians 5:17 PHILLIPS

It’s January and you may have thought, “Oh good, that last year was a tough one. I’m just glad I made it through,” or “I’m just ready to move on to what is ahead.”

Well, this verse brings two things to mind.

  1. Not only does God promise that we become a ‘new’ person,

  2. but that old things are passed away!

What does this mean?  We begin a new journey where things begin to change inside of us — a new heart and a new nature! Old thoughts, old principles and old practices are now replaced with new. You’re no longer going back to the old way of doing things. In fact, those old desires are being replaced with new ones!

The challenge: Your life is now surrendered to God and you must begin to trust him This is not always easy. As God begins to do new things in your life; taking you down a new path, teaching and molding you, it can all be a bit challenging. Sometimes, you might even question if it is worth it. But, just remember the saying, “God will never lead you where the hand of God cannot keep you!”

So, my thought for this new year is this:

Enjoy the journey. God knows exactly what He is doing, where He is taking you and what it will take to get you there! Trust Him.
